Anti-money laundering and combatting terrorist financing (AML/CFT) regulations apply to all credit unions, regardless of size or complexity. At times, smaller credit unions, with fewer compliance resources, are specifically targeted by money launderers. Evolving technologies, as well as members’ expectations to move money instantaneously, have significantly increased credit unions’ AML/CFT vulnerabilities. Consequently, Congress passed a new Beneficial Ownership law, as well as several new Anti-money Laundering provisions, to help combat a wide range of financial crimes.
Learning Objectives:
- Review the three new beneficial ownership regulations
- Identify several new anti-money laundering provisions
- Consider the latest anti-money laundering trends
