Credit unions to welcome new members of Congress

The 119th Congress officially convenes on Jan. 3 at noon Eastern. America’s Credit Unions, leagues and credit unions are hosting new members of Congress at a credit union reception that afternoon. There are 12 new Senators and 61 new Representatives.

In addition, credit union advocates will visit Capitol Hill offices to touch base with lawmakers before the work on bills begins. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, with Sen. John Thune, R-SD, serving as majority leader.  Speaker of the House elections are the first order of business when the House meets, with current Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, running again to serve in this role.  The House has 219 Republicans to 215 Democrats, with one vacancy.
