This week: America’s Credit Unions monitors NCUA Board meeting, NY special general election

America’s Credit Unions is supporting a candidate running to fill New York’s open U.S. House seat Tuesday in a special general election. Former Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., is running to fill the 3rd Congressional District seat, which was vacated by former Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., after his expulsion in December.  

Suozzi was a credit union supporter during his service in the House from 2017-22 and is supported by credit unions through CULAC. The winner in this special election will serve through January 2025.  

America’s Credit Unions is also monitoring several relevant hearings and meetings this week, including the NCUA Board’s February meeting Thursday.  

The board is expected to hear a briefing on the Share Insurance Fund’s quarterly report and issue a final interpretive ruling and policy statement on the Minority Depository Institution Preservation Program. America’s Credit Unions will provide credit unions with a recap following the meeting.   

Other items of note happening this week:  

  • Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a full committee hearing to provide oversight over the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network; 
  • Thursday, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy will hold a hearing to discuss the Federal Reserve’s discount window and emergency lending; and  
  • also Thursday, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Inclusion will hold a hearing to examine approaches to combating illicit activity in cryptocurrency.
