Modernizing a hub of advocacy: Credit Union House looks to a brighter future
Credit Union House is undergoing a comprehensive modernization featuring updated technology and expanded meeting spaces. The launch of construction for the new building has officially begun. Following a successful Demo Day on September 9, where nearly 100 people joined to take a swing with a sledgehammer and sign the demo wall with a note to future credit union advocates, the excitement and anticipation of this space are high.
Credit Union House hosts more than 2,000 visitors each year, including 70+ legislators, events, and various meetings.

Credit Union House on Capitol Hill is getting a major facelift—one that promises to transform it into an even more dynamic and engaging space for credit union professionals and advocates, building on its proven track record as the national epicenter of successful advocacy efforts.
The planned modernization aims to infuse the historic facility with state-of-the-art features, immersive technology, and expanded meeting spaces, ensuring that every visit not only informs but inspires.
Specs for the project are finalized. They feature interior remodels, elevator and stair relocation for ADA-friendly accessibility, rooftop and façade updates, state-of-the-art event tech and hybrid meeting support, energy-efficient HVAC and infrastructure, a minute-suite for travelers, and more.
Imagine entering a room where the walls themselves tell the story of the credit union movement, with real-time data and digital displays bringing to life the work done in communities nationwide. The renovation includes visual elements specifically designed to highlight credit unions' history of serving diverse groups of Americans, while digital features will allow credit unions to share their unique stories about who they are and who they serve.
This approach isn't merely about aesthetics; it's a strategic move to underscore the tangible benefits of collective advocacy and to create a memorable experience for visitors.
Building on success with cutting-edge upgrades
"Credit Union House is the national epicenter of credit union advocacy," said Sue McCue, managing director of Credit Union House. "Year-round, it platforms credit union priorities through its permanent presence on Capitol Hill. It is a place and space for advancing the movement."
The facility is set to evolve into a high-tech hub that amplifies the collective impact of credit unions. The vision is clear: a space where cutting-edge digital storytelling and real-time data insights help shape public policy and foster deeper connections among advocates and lawmakers.
Troy Stang, Credit Union House board chair and president/CEO of GoWest Credit Union Association, captured the essence of this transformation during the 2025 Governmental Affairs Conference when this modernization project was first announced.
"The Credit Union House is a powerful symbol of our movement's strength and collaboration," he noted. "Our goal is to make sure that every policymaker who visits not only hears about the credit union difference but experiences it firsthand."
His remarks underline the commitment to turning the facility into more than just a meeting space. It will be an interactive environment where the contributions and values of credit unions are vividly showcased.
A smart, strategic investment
Stang thanked supporters and called upon all credit unions to participate in this project.
"On behalf of the Credit Union House Board, thank you for the generous support of this historic modernization effort. Because of you, we're not just reimagining a building, we're renewing a space that has long served as the epicenter of credit union advocacy in Washington, D.C.
"If you haven't, I'm calling on all credit unions to make a gift today and invite your peers to join you. We must have the full strength of the Movement to reach our goal, and we need even more leaders to step forward. Your support will help the Credit Union House become a cutting-edge space that reflects the energy, innovation, and values of the Credit Union Movement.
"By modernizing the space, credit unions are ensuring that they have a compelling platform from which to engage with lawmakers and other stakeholders, strengthening relationships that are vital for driving meaningful change in financial policies that support credit unions.
"This isn't just an update to an existing building," McCue explained. "This is about designing a forward-thinking space that meets the demands of today and anticipates the needs of tomorrow."
In today's rapidly evolving financial landscape, this modernization project is a timely reminder that infrastructure can be a catalyst for progress. By creating an interactive, high-tech environment on Capitol Hill, Credit Union House is setting the stage for a new era of advocacy: one where innovation and tradition work hand in hand to make a lasting impact on policy and the communities credit unions serve.
