Advocacy leaders bring credit union priorities to policymakers
Credit union policy priorities were front and center on Capitol Hill with key policymakers Thursday, as America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson and members of the advocacy team met with key members of Congress.
Meetings included Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain, R-Mich., and House Financial Services Committee staff for Ranking Member Maxine Waters, D-Calif.
As a leader on the Senate Finance Committee, Wyden is part of reconciliation discussions, and Thursday’s meeting emphasized the billions in value credit unions deliver to consumers every year, and why the credit union tax status is essential to those benefits.
America’s Credit Unions is working to advance threshold modernization, regulatory relief, digital assets, and data privacy security legislation, and discussions with Emmer and McClain from House leadership demonstrated how those bills would ultimately result in better credit union service to communities.
Simpson also met with legislators on Wednesday, including Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, D-Md., House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill, R-Ark., and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo.
