Closing keynote inspires credit unions to think outside the box

Bestselling author and trend curator Rohit Bhargava provided attendees with actionable insights on changing trends during his closing keynote speech Wednesday at the Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).

Bhargava detailed how leaders can anticipate the future and recognize the trends already shaping it, pointing to unique and quirky stories to aid his message, and urging the credit union professionals in the audience to utilize what he calls “non-obvious thinking.”

Acknowledging the audience would be leaving the session to attend meetings with lawmakers and advocate on behalf of the industry, Bhargava explained how understanding the people they will be meeting with is key to influencing them. “The people who understand people always win,” he said.

He also outlined trends that credit unions can take back to their organizations with them, and one big challenge that often prohibits leaders from engaging in non-obvious thinking: the current “modern believability crisis” created by technology and misleading marketing that often leads to a lack of trust and an inability to think open-mindedly.

At the close of the keynote, attendees were given a copy of Bhargava’s latest book and had the opportunity to participate in a book signing.
