Credit unions on Capitol Hill today to welcome 119th Congress

With the 119th Congress underway officially at noon Eastern today, America’s Credit Unions, leagues, and credit unions are in Washington, D.C., to welcome both new and returning members. Seventeen leagues representing 32 states, plus dozens of credit union advocates, are on hand to participate in a series of events.

Congressional office buildings are open Friday, with credit union advocates taking part in open houses or making individual visits to meet with staff, leave behind credit union advocacy resources, and make plans for future policy-focused meetings.

America’s Credit Unions is hosting a welcome reception for new members of Congress Friday afternoon at the Capitol Visitor Center. There are 12 new Senators and 61 new Representatives in the 119th Congress, with many credit union supporters elected.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., announced Republican committee assignments before the holidays, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announced Democrat assignments Thursday.
