Credit unions host legislators over Memorial Day recess

Credit union leaders brought members of Congress to their branches in advance of their return to Capitol Hill this week.  America’s Credit Unions, leagues, and credit unions connected with legislators during the Memorial Day recess to set the stage for further action in the credit union advocacy agenda these next several weeks.

Ardent Credit Union in Philadelphia hosted Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., ranking member of the House Budget Committee and member of the House Ways and Means Committee, on Friday. The meeting brought together area credit union leaders, as well as both CrossState Credit Union Association and America’s Credit Unions staff. They discussed the “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” campaign and other credit union legislative priorities. Boyle acknowledged the importance of preserving the credit union tax status, and shared updates on the One Big Beautiful Bill (H.R. 1).

Credit union attendees included Ardent Credit Union’s Rob Werner; American Heritage Credit Union’s Mitchell Kay; Citadel Credit Union’s Bill Brown and Steve Miller; and TruMark Financial Credit Union’s Kelly Botti and Chris Woods.

University Federal Credit Union also hosted a Friday event that brought Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, to its University of Texas Club branch in Austin. Doggett is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Leaders from five credit unions and the Cornerstone League attended. This includes University Federal Credit Union’s Michael Crowl, David Courreges, Chris Turnley, Sam Denton, Noah Torres, and Laura Kilcrease; Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union’s Mark Sekula, Mark Matthews, Sal Guerrero, and Julie Klumpyan; A+ Federal Credit Union’s O.J. Glider, Nathan Willis, and Kish Johnson; Travis County Credit Union’s Georgina Edwards and Alicia Quezada; and Texas Health Credit Union’s Derrick Brown.

Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., a member of the House Appropriations Committee, visited Chicago-based NuMark Credit Union while back in district. The credit union shared how they serve their members and communities and focused on credit union legislative priorities. NuMark hosted Rep. Sean Casten, D-Ill., in April.
