Credit unions respond to hurricane damage across multiple states
Leagues and credit unions in affected areas are responding to the devastation left by Hurricane Helene. The hurricane hit northwest Florida Thursday, with continued with widespread flooding, fatalities, and damages throughout Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation across so many communities in the wake of this storm, and it is incredibly impactful to see the credit union community’s people-helping-people mindset bringing so many together with a cooperative spirit to respond to this disaster,” said America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle.
- The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) and the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) prepared ahead of the hurricane, with staff deploying food, water, formula, mobile branches and other emergency supplies to help restore critical services in the affected areas. The SECUF’s Disaster Relief Fund is accepting contributions to provide immediate financial assistance to those in need.
- The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation is ready to support employees and their families affected by the storm through its Disaster Relief Fund. Contributions are being accepted, as well as applications for support for credit union employees and volunteers who have been displaced.
- The National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid Program helps credit union employees and volunteers rebuild after natural disasters, and the Foundation maintains a disaster relief playbook with information on these grants.
America’s Credit Unions continues sharing additional information from Leagues, credit unions and other industry stakeholders related to Hurricane Helene’s impact as it becomes available.
