Embedding advocacy throughout credit unions

Grassroots advocacy is an essential part of the Don’t Tax My Credit Union campaign and played a huge role in the Senate passage of a clean GENIUS Act. As an incoming CEO, Great Lakes Credit Union’s (GLCU) Steven Bugg made sure integrating grassroots was part of every conversation in the C-suite, and shared insights in a recent America’s Credit Unions Blog post.

The credit union saw high open and click rates from its Don’t Tax My Credit Union outreach to members in the spring and prepared staff with training on the campaign strategy to help answer potential member questions.

Bugg takes advantage of a monthly radio segment to ensure Chicagoans are aware of the credit union difference. He has also prioritized bringing in staff with advocacy experience. In fact, Great Lakes Credit Union’s Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Osborne testified before the House Financial Services Committee last year, ensuring the industry had a voice amid discussions on AI.
