Emphasizing credit union service during National Small Business Week
May 15, 2026
This month’s National Small Business Week was a chance to highlight the many ways credit unions serve businesses in their communities year-round. Recent America’s Credit Unions Blog entries detail how credit unions consistently provide Main Street with affordable capital and other services.
Credit-union commercial-loan balances rose 10.9% in 2025, according to NCUA and Federal Reserve small-business data, showing how credit unions are a strong source of small business capital. The Fed’s most recent Small Business Credit Survey showed that credit unions led all lender types in borrower satisfaction.
Some examples of credit union success in helping small businesses include:
- St. Louis Community Credit Union stepping in to save a beloved local St. Louis food brand after banks rejected them; and
- Michigan’s Lake Trust Credit Union's innovative microloan program that has deployed nearly $5 million since 2019.
