Engaging with House leadership, Ways and Means members, and more
Ongoing tax discussions—in advance of the anticipated release of the House Ways and Means Committee’s budget reconciliation legislation—is bringing credit union leaders to Washington, D.C. for consistent engagement with members of Congress.
Coming from Texas and Louisiana, Luminate- Louisiana’s Credit Unions and Cornerstone League joined with America’s Credit Unions to bring credit union advocates together on Capitol Hill with multiple key policy makers.
America’s Credit Unions and Juan Fernández Ceballos, Luminate president/CEO, met with House leadership offices, including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., both credit union supporters (and Johnson a longtime credit union member).
The Cornerstone League— brought four credit union leaders - First Service Credit Union President/CEO Dave Bleazard and Director of Political Advocacy and Community Relations Steve Gilman, Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Salvador Guererro, and Caprock Federal Credit Union CEO Dale Hansard— to meet with 11 different legislative offices Tuesday. Visits included House Ways and Means Committee members Reps. Beth Van Duyne, R, Nathaniel Moran, R, and Jodey Arrington, R (who also chairs the House Budget Committee); House Small Business Committee Chairman Roger Williams, R; and Reps. Monica De La Cruz, R, Jake Ellzey, R, Veronica Escobar, D, Lizzie Fletcher, D, Brandon Gill, R, Craig Goldman, R, Chip Roy, R, Keith Self, R, and Pete Sessions, R.
Additional credit union visits are planned for these two weeks as tax reform discussions continue. Credit unions from Arkansas, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania held meetings last week.
