Engaging with the latest credit union regulatory issues

Addressing key credit union regulatory issues and concerns are at the forefront for the Emerging Issues Committee. Launched this year by America’s Credit Unions, committee members from across the country and industry met Wednesday for its fifth and final meeting of 2025.

The group shared the latest thoughts and questions on items open for comment:

  • NCUA’s regulatory relief efforts related to amending Part 748 of the NCUA's regulations to reclassify Appendices A & B as guidance. Comments are due February 9; and
  • The Federal Reserve’s request for comment on the future of Reserve Banks’ check services. Comments are due March 9.

Andrew Morris, America’s Credit Unions Director of Innovation and Technology, provided an update on the CFPB’s small business lending data proposal (America’s Credit Unions submitted comments on Monday) and the Section 1033 personal data financial rights proposal. A district court has effectively blocked enforcement of the Section 1033 rule as the bureau pursues a new rulemaking as part of an accelerated process.
