Leagues, credit unions host lawmakers, attend local political events

Credit unions are taking advantage of in-district opportunities to connect with members of Congress as the August recess winds down. 

Luminate – Louisiana’s Credit Unions has connected with several members from the state’s delegation this month. Sens. Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy (both R-La.), and Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., joined with various state legislators in a meeting with CSE Federal Credit Union, Access of Louisiana Federal Credit Union, and Luminate staff.

Georgia credit unions and League of Credit Union and Affiliates staff met with Rep. Brian Jack, R-Ga., a member of the House Financial Services Committee.  The League also met with candidate for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District James Walkinshaw, who is running in the Sept. 9 special election to fill the seat left open by the passing of Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va. The group discussed interchange, fraud, data security, and regulatory burdens at America’s Credit Unions’ Washington, D.C., office.

The Illinois Credit Union League attended an economic roundtable hosted by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, which also featured Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill.
Credit unions in North Carolina and South Carolina have joined with the Carolinas Credit Union League to connect with members of Congress at various in-district events.

Truliant Federal Credit Union brought a number of local business leaders to meet with Rep. Pat Harrigan, R, N.C., at its headquarters. They used the time to discuss advancing regional commerce, attracting investment, and strengthening economic competitiveness across the district.

The Carolinas League and Carolinas Trust Federal Credit Union attended Rep. Russell Fry’s 2nd Annual Freedom Fry event in Myrtle Beach, S.C., which also included Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., and Reps. Joe Wilson, Ralph Norman, and Nancy Mace, (all R-S.C.).

Rep. Sheri Biggs, R-N.C., hosted an inaugural Salute to Liberty event in Anderson, S.C., which was attended by Greenville Federal Credit Union, Spero Financial, and the Carolinas League.
