Levenbach nominated to CFPB Director

To fill the open CFPB director position, President Donald Trump nominated Stuart Levenbach Tuesday to serve a five-year term in that role. If confirmed, Levenbach would step in for current CFPB Acting Director Russ Vought and replace former director Rohit Chopra. However, the CFPB has stated that this nomination is a “technical” maneuver to allow Acting Director Vought to continue running the agency.

Vought has served as acting director of the bureau since February, and under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act of 1998, is only allowed to serve 210 days in that capacity. That period is extended if a nomination is made.

Levenbach is currently an associate director at the Office of Management and Budget and previously worked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

A confirmation hearing date is not yet scheduled.
