September inflation data shows ‘continued price easing’
September's consumer price index report shows a 0.2% increase, the same increase as in August and July, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
"September's inflation data indicates continued price easing. The headline monthly Consumer Price Index rose at an annualized rate of 2.4% over the past three months, historically consistent with the Fed's 2% inflation goal of its preferred inflation measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditures,” said America’s Credit Unions Senior Economist Dawit Kebede. “This supports the case that monetary policy does not need to stay in restrictive territory, making it more likely that rates will come down by another 50 basis points before the end of the year as previously announced."
