Simpson on advocacy focus, what’s new at GAC 2026, more

With thousands of credit union advocates preparing for the 2026 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson shares what’s new this year and the event’s advocacy focus in an interview with CUInsight President/CEO Greg Michlig.

Simpson talks about the critical impact that advocacy efforts at GAC have on the credit union movement and the big topics to address with lawmakers.

“This particular moment we’ve got to deal with a few pieces of legislation that the president has put in front of us, that we didn’t anticipate dealing with in 2026,” said Simpson, discussing the administration’s focus on affordability and how that has been mistranslated into targeting the card payment system.

Simpson also details what can be expected from the expanded lineup of breakout sessions at this year’s event.
