Simpson: Unified credit union movement lifts small credit unions
Credit union action and unity are both needed to keep the movement strong, America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson wrote in an op-ed published Tuesday.
“Being part of a unified movement means lifting up, not putting down; cooperating, not competing,” Simpson wrote, pointing out this is especially important because opponents are seeking to put credit unions out of business, but fail to provide the member-first service that can only be found at credit unions.
Lifting up small credit unions with the support needed to address their unique challenges is also part of this unified movement. America’s Credit Unions’ actions include launching a Small Credit Union Advocacy Advisory Panel, hosting Small Credit Union Conferences, designated staff to work directly with small credit unions, and more.
“As credit unions’ national trade association, it is our role to protect the credit union operating environment. We do that by providing support, guidance, and education, with advocacy being our top priority for all of our members. We must also strike the right balance of respecting credit unions’ freedom as a member-owned cooperative to define who they need to be for their members,” Simpson wrote. “Thriving small credit unions mean a thriving small credit union movement.”
