Today: Reps. Kim, Sherman among credit union supporters on the ballot
State primaries resume today across six states, with America’s Credit Unions PAC supporting 43 candidates in California, two in Iowa, two in Montana, five in New Jersey, two in New Mexico, and one in South Dakota.
This week’s elections include several closely watched, high-profile member-on-member matchups and open-seat races.
California’s redistricting effort significantly reshaped the political landscape. With the top two primary finishers advancing to November’s general election regardless of party, credit unions are supporting:
- Credit union champion Rep. Young Kim, R-Calif., with its first independent expenditure (IE) ad campaign of the cycle that included digital advertising and direct mail outreach. Early and substantial investment helped elevate Kim’s record of service and support for policies that benefit credit unions and their members.
- Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., who faces a competitive primary as he seeks reelection in California’s 32nd Congressional District. America's Credit Unions and the California Credit Union League are partnered on a member communications campaign targeted to credit union members. It highlights Sherman’s longstanding support for credit unions and his commitment to protecting access to affordable financial services;
- State Rep. Jacqui Irwin, D, in her race seeking the nomination in the state’s 26th Congressional District with PAC backing; and
- State Sen. Mike McGuire, D, for California’s 1st Congressional District.
In Montana, the PAC is supporting former U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme as he campaigns to succeed outgoing Sen. Steve Daines, R, who has opted not to seek reelection.
In South Dakota, the PAC is supporting Attorney General Marty Jackley, who is running to fill the seat being vacated by Rep. Dusty Johnson, R, as he pursues a run for governor.
