This week: Advocacy ongoing as Senate considers GENIUS Act

The Senate is expected to consider the stablecoin GENIUS Act this week. America’s Credit Unions has launched a full court press in strong opposition to any amendments to the cryptocurrency legislation, specifically a poison pill amendment offered by Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., that would add his Big Box Bailout language to the bill.

Outreach by the advocacy team and grassroots engagement from credit unions is underway and urges Senators to kill the amendment. For grassroots action information, check out the Protect Interchange website

The Senate may begin consideration of the budget reconciliation package as early as this week. Don’t Tax My Credit Union advocacy is still needed with senators to ensure they keep the credit union tax status out of their version of the House’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1).

Also happening this week:

  •  Tomorrow, the House Financial Services Committee will markup several bills, including America’s Credit Unions-backed financial mentorship and mortgage "trigger leads" legislation;
  • Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent testifies before the House Ways and Means Committee;
  • Wednesday, the Senate Small Business Committee holds a hearing on the Small Business Administration’s Disaster Loan program; and
  • Wednesday, a Senate Appropriations subcommittee holds a hearing on the Treasury Department’s fiscal year 2026 budget request.
