This week: America’s Credit Unions testifying at Treasury hearing
With the House and Senate back on Capitol Hill this week, advocacy efforts continue to engage lawmakers on key credit union priorities ahead of the America’s Credit Unions 2026 Governmental Affairs Conference. Thousands of credit union advocates will gather in Washington, D.C. for GAC starting this weekend.
Testifying at a public Treasury Department hearing tomorrow, Head of Regulatory Advocacy James Akin will provide the credit union perspective on the IRS proposal implementing car loan interest deduction provisions of H.R. 1.
America’s Credit Unions outlined various concerns with the proposed regulations in a comment letter sent to the IRS earlier this month.
The State of the Union Address is scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern tomorrow. America’s Credit Unions will monitor President Donald Trump’s speech for any mention of credit union-related issues.
Also happening this week:
- Wednesday, the Senate Small Business Committee tackles fraud and Small Business Administration (SBA) lending programs;
- Thursday, NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman will testify before the Senate Banking Committee Thursday, along with other federal financial regulators; and
- Friday, comments are due to the NCUA on several of its Deregulation Project proposals.
