This week: Congress returns; America’s Credit Unions unveils yearly policy priorities

New members of the House and Senate are sworn in, the House Speaker was re-elected, and the 119th Congress is now in session. Today, Congress meets in a joint session to count electoral votes and certify the results of the 2024 Presidential Election.

America’s Credit Unions’ efforts to engage lawmakers in the new Congress are underway. The organization unveils its 2025 Policy Priorities this week, a detailed list of credit union industry issues to guide advocacy efforts throughout the year. The priorities center around protecting, empowering, and advancing credit unions. Stay tuned for the full release.  

Beginning Jan. 7, President Jimmy Carter will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol, concluding with a state funeral and National Day of Mourning on Jan. 9. Federal offices will be closed that day.  

In addition, the agenda for the NCUA board’s first meeting of the year is expected Thursday.
