This week: Lawmakers tackling fintech innovations, FCC oversight

The House and Senate are in Washington this week, with a few hearings of note for credit unions on the agenda.

As the Jan. 30 funding deadline approaches, America’s Credit Unions continues to monitor congressional movement on passing additional appropriations bills or funding agreements. If not passed, a partial shutdown could occur. The Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Department of Veterans Affairs, military construction, and Congressional operations would not be impacted as they remain funded through the end of the fiscal year, Sept. 30.

Happening this week:

  • Tomorrow, the House Financial Services Committee will meet to discuss fintech innovations and regulations; and
  • Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will provide oversight of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Registration for the 2026 Governmental Affairs Conference, happening March 1-5 in Washington, D.C., remains open. Stay tuned for an exciting keynote announcement later this month.
