This week: NCUA, Congress tackle key credit union issues

This week, House committees will meet to discuss several bills of importance, as well as Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster relief programs. America’s Credit Unions will continue to engage lawmakers before they head back to their districts for the August recess.
Items of note this week on the congressional and regulatory front include:
- Today, a House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government subcommittee will mark up its fiscal year 2026 bill;
- Tomorrow, the House Financial Services Committee will mark up several bills, including the SMART Act, H.R. 4437, the Stop Agency Fiat Enforcement of Guidance Act, H.R. 4460, and the American Access to Banking Act;
- Wednesday, a House Small Business subcommittee will hold a hearing on the SBA disaster relief programs;
- Thursday, the NCUA Board meeting will tackle updates on AI and the central liquidity facility; and
- Friday, comments on the NCUA’s regulatory review are due to the agency.
