Credit union witnesses testify today at Senate, CFPB hearings

Credit union leaders are testifying on behalf of America’s Credit Unions at two hearings today: a Senate Banking Committee hearing on fees and a CFPB/Department of Transportation (DOT) hearing on airline and credit card rewards programs.

Afena Federal Credit Union President/CEO Karen Madry—chair of America’s Unions Small Credit Union Committee—testifies before the Senate Banking Committee’s hearing focused on fees in financial services and rental housing.

Madry will share how continued regulatory overreach jeopardizes access to credit, especially for the financially vulnerable communities Afena serves. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Eastern and will be streamed on the committee’s website.

Apple Federal Credit Union President/CEO Andy Grimm testifies at the CFPB/DOT hearing on airline and credit card rewards programs.

He plans to discuss how regulatory burdens ultimately harm the members and communities credit unions serve. The joint hearing also begins at 10 a.m. Eastern and will be streamed on the CFPB’s website.

Madry is the second witness to testify before Congress on behalf of America’s Credit Unions this year.  America’s Credit Unions’ Transition Board Secretary and Commonwealth Credit Union President/CEO Karen Harbin testified before the House Financial Services Committee regarding  regulatory overreach in March. America’s Credit Unions continues to highlight the negative impact of regulatory burdens on credit unions’ ability to offer competitive products and serve their members.
