Theresa May, policymakers lead Tuesday; Shaun White, Hill visits Wednesday

Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) attendees heard from members of Congress, policymakers, and a former U.K. Prime Minister Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle conducted a fireside chat with the Rt. Hon. Theresa May, where the former Prime Minister and current member of Parliament shared how service has shaped her career and outlook.

Reps. French Hill, R-Ark., and Young Kim, R-Calif., members of the House Financial Services Committee, expressed their support for the work credit unions do, with Hill detailing his numerous issues with the interchange bill, and Kim saying she’ll continue to hold the CFPB accountable.

NCUA Board Member Tanya Otsuka shared her regulatory philosophy and priorities as NCUA’s newest board member, while U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke said credit unions hold the power to transform the lending industry.

In addition, a variety of breakout sessions dove into everything from “junk fees,” the 2024 election, and how improving financial well-being helps boost advocacy efforts.

Tomorrow’s agenda features:

  • A keynote address from Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White;
  • More speakers from Congress and federal agencies; and
  • Hundreds of meetings with members of Congress as thousands of credit union advocates head to Capitol Hill.
