Steady focus on people sets credit unions apart
Highlighting credit unions’ laser focus on serving people and how it sets them apart from for-profit banks is the focus of America’s Credit Unions’ message to Senate staff Tuesday. It’s part of daily outreach as the Senate works on their version of the One Big Beautiful Bill (H.R. 1), highlighting the life-changing differences credit unions make every day.
As not-for-profit financial cooperatives, credit unions make around 90% of their loans to households, while big banks make around 40% of loans to households, and community banks make around 30% of loans to households.
The message also links to America’s Credit Unions’ handout with the data behind the credit union difference, including the more than $35 billion in annual benefits to members and non-members.
The Senate Finance Committee’s early draft of its reconciliation language secures the credit union tax status. The complete text is expected in the coming days, with the Senate aiming to vote on the bill by the July 4 recess.
