This week: Advocacy momentum continues as lawmakers consider notable bills
The House and Senate are both in session, with several topics of interest for the credit union industry on the docket for various hearings.
The House Rules Committee meets this afternoon on the America’s Credit Unions-supported GENIUS Act, Anti CBDC Surveillance State Act, and Digital Asset Clarity Act. The organization will engage lawmakers to urge passage of the legislation.
The House Financial Services Committee holds a hearing tomorrow on the 15-year anniversary of the Dodd-Frank Act. Key pieces of legislation to enact CFPB reform are also on the agenda, including the TABS Act, Making the CFPB Accountable to Small Businesses Act, and Business of Insurance Regulatory Reform Act.
The Senate is expected to consider the Administration’s proposed appropriations recissions for FY2025. Senators could see another “vote-a-rama” on possible amendments this week.

- Tomorrow, the House Small Business Committee holds a hearing on cutting red tape and the House Armed Services Committee will begin its mark up of the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA);
- Wednesday, the NCUA hosts a webinar on credit risk;
- Wednesday, a House Ways and Means subcommittee holds a hearing on digital asset policy and a House Financial Services subcommittee holds a hearing on housing shortages;
- Thursday, the NCUA Board may issue the July 24 meeting agenda (currently listed as “tentative”); and
- Friday, comments are due to the CFPB regarding its proposed amendment to the civil penalty fund.
