Expanded capital access for credit unions
A flurry of activity in advance of the August recess brought both Congressional and regulatory efforts to move credit union priorities forward. America’s Credit Unions Chief Advocacy Officer Carrie Hunt breaks it all down in the latest Sidebar video.
Hunt emphasized the need for expanded capital access for credit unions, citing the Mission Driven Bank Fund which was originally created to help close the racial wealth gap. “When the fund was originally announced, I asked myself, ‘Could the NCUA do something similar to encourage additional capital sources for credit unions?’ And I asked the NCUA the same thing,” she stated.
“Credit unions don’t need a mission-driven fund. Our mission is part of our DNA as people-first, not-for-profit financial institutions,” added Hunt. She stressed the need for more capital and resources for credit unions to be even more active in their communities and elevate their services.
