Collaboration brings out the best of the credit union movement

The strength of the credit union movement lies in collaboration at every level on behalf of members. American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) President Brad Miller emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in an op-ed published in CUInsight.

“Through intentional, thoughtful, and strategic partnership, 32 state and regional credit union leagues and associations advocate relentlessly to protect and advance a strong, vibrant credit union system across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.,” he wrote.

Leagues work with America’s Credit Unions, lawmakers, credit unions, and each other to proactively:

  • Expand access to affordable housing;
  • Engage with regulators to shape forward-thinking policy; and
  • Deliver financial education that empowers and uplifts members.

“Through these efforts, we build more than just relationships. We build trust, credibility, and influence at State Capitols and in Washington, D.C.,” Miller added.

He thanked America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle for his “steadfast leadership and his intentional collaboration with the league system,” and welcomed incoming America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson.

“We appreciate that Scott has already emphatically expressed that collaboration among leagues, credit unions, and America’s Credit Unions as the national association will strengthen the system. We couldn’t agree more,” Miller wrote.

Simpson served on the AACUL board for more than a decade and is currently president/CEO of California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions, and CEO of Utah's Credit Unions.
