Politico Influence goes 1:1 with Simpson

Politico Influence reporter Caitlin Oprysko sat down with America’s Credit Unions incoming President/CEO on-site at Congressional Caucus to discuss how he plans to approach various issues facing the credit union industry when he begins his tenure Nov. 3.

“You said a ‘victory’ as though it's concluded, and I don't think it has,” Simpson said in response to the industry's unified efforts to protect the tax status in the budget reconciliation process. “The No. 1 priority is to try to defend and enhance a business model that has had to struggle for its existence and survival from the very beginning."

In addition to the tax status, Simpson stressed the need to keep interchange provisions out of the National Defense Authorization Act, reduce regulatory burdens, and ensure credit unions have a stable, independent regulator.
