This week: Engaging with HFSC hearings on fraud, lending, and more

It’s another busy week with Congress in D.C., and America’s Credit Unions will engage in several hearings and meetings on Capitol Hill, while the House is expected to tackle government funding issues on the floor and the Senate continues its work on the National Defense Authorization Act.

The House Financial Services Committee will mark up several pieces of legislation starting on Tuesday, with several hearings scheduled that address issues of concern for credit unions:

  • Monetary Policy, Treasury Market Resilience, and Economic Prosperity Task Force hearing titled, “Less Mandates, More Independence” Wednesday, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern;
  • Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing titled, “Fraud in Focus: Exposing Financial Threats to American Families,” Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. Eastern;
  • Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence Subcommittee hearing titled, “Unlocking the Next Generation of AI in the U.S. Financial System for Consumers, Businesses, and Competitiveness,” Thursday, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern.

Comments are due today on both the NCUA’s review of the Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion, and the Department of Justice’s request for information on state laws impacting the national economy.
