House advances CR to fund government through Nov. 21, funding efforts stall in Senate
The House voted 217-212 Friday to advance a continuing resolution funding the federal government through Nov. 21 and left for a recess that is scheduled to conclude on Oct. 1, after current government funding expires.
Shortly after the House vote, the Senate on Friday failed to advance both the House-passed continuing resolution and a Democratic alternative funding measure. The chamber then headed to its own recess with plans to return to Washington on Monday, September 29th, the day before funding expires after 11:59 p.m. Eastern Sept. 30.
When it returns, in addition to tackling the funding measure, the Senate is also scheduled to continue work on its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which is has not been able to advance on the floor. America’s Credit Unions continues to lead the fight against any amendments harmful to credit unions being added to the NDAA, including interchange provisions and an amendment offered by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., that would prohibit the Federal Reserve from paying interest to depository institutions that hold deposits in Reserve Banks.
