Listening, elevating credit union voices
Elevating all credit union voices – including the voices of small credit unions – is at the forefront for America’s Credit Unions. President/CEO Scott Simpson detailed this commitment Wednesday while addressing a group of small credit union leaders from the Credit Union Women’s Leadership Alliance (CUWLA), an organization founded to help women credit union leaders grow, network, and collaborate on leadership within the movement.
Simpson pledged America’s Credit Unions’ support to help “move the needle on whatever policy we can” to aid small credit unions and outlined how the organization’s advocacy priorities will help improve the environment for small credit unions, including efforts specifically geared toward an even playing field for institutions of all sizes.
Attendees shared their experiences and challenges in running a small credit union, including keeping up with payments modernization, succession planning, and ongoing consolidation.
Simpson said he aims to make sure “the organization is listening and built to listen the right way” to those and other concerns.
He also encouraged credit unions to engage with America’s Credit Unions, noting “what you see and do every day helps us steer this organization to help you succeed.”
In addition to advocacy efforts, small credit unions have access to compliance and other resources specifically geared to their needs. These range from compliance materials and expertise, to an online small credit union community, and opportunities to network and gain skills through Councils.
