This week: Congress working to end partial government shutdown

A partial government shutdown began at 12 a.m. Saturday. It is expected to be short-lived as the House returns to Washington, D.C., today with plans to vote on a Senate-reached deal later today or tomorrow.

The Senate passed a five-bill minibus negotiated by Senate leadership and administration officials Friday. It covers outstanding FY2026 funding bills, as well as a two-week stopgap measure for the Department of Homeland Security. The House was in-district Friday when the shutdown took effect.

With Congressional operations funding already secured, hearings this week will continue as scheduled. This includes the Financial Stability Oversight Council’s annual report presentation during hearings before the House Financial Services Committee and Senate Banking Committee.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Governmental Affairs Conference is officially one month away! Help shape the future by bringing the unified credit union voice directly to the nation’s capital at the GAC; register now for the event happening March 1-5.
