Credit union transforms lives through a member-first approach

Holy Rosary Credit Union is a small credit union making a big impact serving its Kansas City, Mo. Community. Helping a member go from living in her car to becoming a homeowner in a few short years is just one of their many success stories. That same member, who now works as a social services caseworker, recently asked the credit union to help her clients rebuild their lives.  A moment that Holy Rosary President Carole Wight calls “full circle.”

From its roots in serving immigrants who were kept out of mainstream financial services, Holy Rosary has astrong history of finding ways to help members, as detailed in America’s Credit Unions blog.

The U.S. Treasury has recognized Holy Rosary as one of the top 25 of credit unions and banks in the country for serving low-income populations. In 2024, 96% of the credit union’s loans went to low-income borrowers. With staff members who speak Vietnamese and Spanish, Holy Rosary also has the Juntos Avanzamos designation to signal its commitment to serving Hispanic communities. It leverages community partnerships and multiple resources to support homeowners, entrepreneurs, and building credit scores. .

“What we have—people helping people, working together to take care of the needs of all—is so priceless and wonderful and powerful,” Wight said.
