This Week: Appropriations process underway, HFSC markup scheduled
Congress is in Washington, D.C., this week, and the fiscal year 2027 appropriations process is underway. The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to mark up its FY27 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) bill starting Tuesday, and America’s Credit Unions will continue to advocate for full funding of credit union priorities.
This includes maintaining or increasing funding levels for the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund ($324 million in FY26) and NCUA’s Community Development Revolving Loan Fund ($3.4 million in FY26).
The House Financial Services Committee also has a markup scheduled this week, starting Tuesday at 10 a.m. Eastern. Included in the group of bills is one from Committee Chairman French Hill, R-Ark., to partially repeal certain small business lending data reporting requirements.
Other hearings scheduled this week include:
- Tuesday, Senate Banking Committee nomination hearing for Kevin Warsh to serve as the next Federal Reserve Chairman;
- Tuesday, House Homeland Security Committee hearing covering online scams and cryptocurrency fraud; and
- Wednesday, the Senate Appropriations Committee will hear testimony from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the agency’s FY27 budget request.
In addition to these hearings and markups, Congress continues to debate Department of Homeland Security funding agreements to try to put an end to the ongoing shutdown, including through a possible reconciliation package and consideration of a Budget Resolution on the floor this week. America’s Credit Unions and Leagues remain engaged with lawmakers to ensure credit unions’ impact is recognized.
