Opposing NDAA amendments that would harm credit union members
June 10, 2026
As the FY27 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) markup gets underway today in the Senate Armed Services Committee, America’s Credit Unions is urging lawmakers to reject any amendments that would undermine services for millions of military members and veterans.
The letter, sent Tuesday, outlines strong credit union opposition to:
- Any alteration to the longstanding policy allowing credit unions to lease space on military bases at nominal rates, as the current system provides military members and families with access to safe and affordable services;
- Adding payments-related provisions, including the Credit Card Competition Act or broader interchange reforms, as those measures could ultimately lead to fewer free financial products, and the NDAA should “remain focused on national security rather than unrelated financial policy debates.”
The House Armed Services Committee cleared its FY27 NDAA last week without any concerning amendments.
