League System engages policymakers at home and in D.C.
The League System is advancing credit union priorities with policymakers in Washington, D.C, and in home states and districts.
Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton recently met with America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson and Illinois Credit Union League’s (ICUL) Keith Sias in Washington, D.C. This event followed a Chicago meeting earlier this year with credit union leaders, including America’s Credit Unions staff, members of the ICUL team, and more than 12 credit union advocates.
The visits with Stratton, D, who is Illinois’ first black lieutenant governor and seeking the Senate seat being vacated by Dick Durbin, D, provided an opportunity to discuss the credit union difference. Attendees highlighted the credit union presence across the state of Illinois, their focus on affordability and access to credit, and how vital credit unions are for both consumers and the communities they serve.
America’s Credit Unions, the Cooperative Credit Union Association, and more than four dozen Massachusetts credit union leaders met with Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., earlier this month. The discussion centered around what credit unions were doing in their local community to help folks in need, including an emphasis on food security, one of McGovern’s key concerns.
The Iowa Credit Union League welcomed Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa, to their Des Moines office. Local credit union leaders and League staff took part, talking with Nunn about priorities for the remainder of this Congress and beyond.
