Leagues, credit unions meet with legislators to advance priorities

Summer recesses combined with November’s election mean only a few weeks of session time in Washington, D.C., remain this year. But credit union advocacy isn’t limited to Capitol Hill, and Leagues and credit unions are connecting with legislators in home states and districts.

Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) organized a workshop at a local senior living community last month to fight senior scams, held in partnership with Nevada’s Credit Unions, Create Credit Union, Silver State Schools Credit Union, and other law enforcement and community organizations.  At the event, Silver State Schools Credit Union led a session dedicated to identifying romance scams, while Create Credit Union led a session on artificial intelligence and voice-cloning scams.

In coordination with the New York Credit Union Association and America’s Credit Unions, Rep. Tim Kennedy (D-NY), met with credit union leaders from western New York in Buffalo.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union also recently welcomed South Dakota Attorney General and Republican nominee for the state’s at-large Congressional district Marty Jackley. CEO Jerry Schmidt, CFO Jarrod Reisner, and Counsel Frank Bettmann discussed issues impacting credit unions, financial services, and South Dakota consumers.
