New campaign launch aims to stop check fraud before it starts

Check fraud remains one of the fastest-growing types of financial fraud. America’s Credit Unions and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues are supporting a new campaign in partnership with America Saves that’s designed to bring attention to how and why check fraud occurs.

“Check Yourself: Stop Check Fraud Before it Starts” provides information to help consumers better understand and protect themselves from fraud, along with resources for credit unions.

Throughout the month of August, weekly themed campaign resources will help raise awareness of check-related fraud threats. Resources include newsletter posts, social media graphics and videos, blog posts, and more.

The campaign starts August 3, and addresses the following topics each week:

  • Week 1: Aug. 3 - 7: What is Check Fraud?
  • Week 2: Aug. 10 – 14: Types of Check Fraud
  • Week 3: Aug. 17 – 21: Check Fraud Detection
  • Week 4: Aug. 24 – 28: What to Do if You're a Victim of Check Fraud

Credit unions are encouraged to participate in the campaign and can utilize the materials provided in the social toolkit.
