Counsel members while improving financial results

Earn the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation through the Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) which provides credit union employees with the skills and knowledge required to guide their members to sound financial decisions.

Americans often learn about finances from their families and friends, or just go it alone. The need for expert help is real, especially when so many face uncertain economic futures.

Top reasons to earn the CCUFC designation:

  • Help members experiencing financial difficulties
  • Demonstrate the credit union difference
  • Attract new members
  • Grow product and service revenue

Who should certify

The CCUFC and FiCEP are beneficial for credit union staff who work in financial counseling, collections, lending, and any other staff members who are committed to helping members gain control of their financial futures.

How to certify

1. Choose your method of certification

  • Option 1: Purchase the 6th Edition FiCEP book, available in print or PDF.
  • Option 2: Register for the FiCEP eSchool, recorded option is available online. The FiCEP book PDF is included in the eSchool registration.

2. Request the FiCEP. Select an exam proctor, schedule an exam date, and complete the proctored exam request form at least 2 weeks prior to the desired exam date.

3. Read and study the curriculum in the 6th Edition FiCEP book.

4. Take the FiCEP online exam.

How to recertify

Recertification is required every 3 years. If you are currently certified, meaning your certification has not lapsed, and your expiration date is approaching:

  • Option 1: Purchase the 7th Edition FiCEP Update book, available in print or PDF.
  • Option 2: Register for the FiCEP Recertification eSchool 2026. A recorded option will be available online after the live eSchool. The FiCEP Recertification 7th Edition PDF is included in the eSchool registration.

Important notes:

  1. Each person who wants to recertify needs to either register for the Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP)  Recertification eSchool or purchase the Financial Counseling Recertification Program (FiCEP) Book, 7th Ed. Recertification. The PDF comes with the recertification eSchool.
  2. The recertification requirement is that the FiCEP Recertification book needs to be read whether someone chooses the eSchool or book.
  3. After reading the FiCEP Recertification book, refer to the welcome email you received after registering for the eSchool or purchasing the book for guidance on how to access our LMS platform to complete the Recertification Knowledge Check. The Knowledge Check has 10 questions (open book). Once you complete the questions, it will notify our systems, and after 48 hours, your certification will be updated for the next 3 years. You will then have access to a new, updated certificate in your America’s Credit Unions account under “My Designations”.
