Credit unions explore upcoming advocacy opportunities
Looking ahead to advocacy opportunities for the rest of 2026, America’s Credit Unions examined multiple ways to connect with policymakers on credit union priorities throughout the year.
These include:
- August recess, when legislators will be in home districts, and credit unions can invite members to branches, town halls, community meetings, and more. The House is on its recess and is scheduled to return Aug. 31; the Senate is expected to adjourn around Aug. 7 and return to Washington after Labor Day;
- Congressional Caucus 2026, Sept. 13-15 in Washington, D.C., where hundreds of credit union advocates will attend sessions and visit Capitol Hill to meet directly with policymakers; and
- October recess, where officials will be in home districts and making their final campaign pushes before the Nov. 3 midterm election, creating numerous opportunities to connect.
The group also discussed ways to get additional information out to credit unions interested in meeting with lawmakers, and what additional tools would encourage more to participate.
