Engaging with officials in D.C. ahead of summer recess

Prior to Congress heading to home states and districts for the August recess, Leagues and credit unions came to Washington, D.C., this week to meet policymakers on Capitol Hill.

Meeting with most Senate and House offices across their multi-state delegation, the Cornerstone League and member credit unions met with key leaders, including House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-AR), and members of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees.

Throughout the week, participants addressed issues including securing the credit union tax status through additional reconciliation discussions, protecting the nation’s electronic payments and interchange system, advancing solutions to combat financial fraud, supporting a clear regulatory framework for digital assets, and promoting balanced regulatory oversight.

Minnesota Credit Union Network staff were also in Washington, meeting with the offices of Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) to discuss the CLARITY Act. The group also met with multiple House offices to discuss Currency Transaction Report/Suspicious Activity Report threshold modernization legislation, the STOP Senior Fraud Act, and other credit union modernization issues like the veterans member business lending bill.
