CrossState, Hawaii Leagues connect with credit union champions
As part of their outreach efforts in advance of the November election, CrossState Credit Union Association and credit union leaders in New Jersey and Pennsylvania met with credit union champion Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., as well as other legislators seeking election.
During his time in Congress, Fitzpatrick has introduced bipartisan legislation to increase credit union loan maturities, exempt loans to veteran-owned businesses from the lending cap, and more. America’s Credit Unions, its PAC, and the CrossState Credit Union Association are supporting Fitzpatrick with a $400,000 independent expenditure for direct mail and digital ads in his re-election campaign.
CrossState and New Jersey credit unions also recently met with:
- Rep. Monika McIver, D-N.J., who was elected to Congress in September, to discuss credit union priorities, and her vision for her time in Congress; and
- Rep. Andy Kim, D-N.J., who is running for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat and has been a strong supporter of credit unions since he was first elected to the House in 2018.
The Hawaii Credit Union League joined with Hotel and Travel Industry Credit Union to host a visit with Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii. Hirono—who shared she’s a member of three different credit unions—met with credit union members and staff, who shared how they are providing support to credit union members affected by the current hotel strike and loss of income.
Hirono has supported bipartisan legislation to exempt credit union loans made to veterans from the member business lending cap. She encouraged credit union advocates to travel to Washington, D.C., to share the credit union voice on Capitol Hill.
