Here when you need it most: Credit union targets their shutdown response

Alabama-based America’s First Federal Credit Union (AmFirst) is making sure they are responding in ways their members need them most in the face of the government shutdown. In fact, they launched a relief program that’s named to represent their focus: Here When You Need Us Most.

AmFirst President/CEO Kevin Morris says stepping up for members in hard times is a credit union’s responsibility. He estimates that several thousand of their members are affected by the shutdown, and the loans and outreach they have made available have an impact that goes beyond each member.

“This lifeline helps members cover critical expenses like rent, groceries, and utility bills. When our members can meet their obligations, it provides peace of mind and ensures local businesses and service providers are paid, benefiting the entire community,” points out Morris.

The credit union’s efforts are highlighted in a recent America’s Credit Unions blog. Additional blog posts are available on the website. If your credit union has a story to share, please contact the Communications team.

Government shutdown resources are available on the America’s Credit Union website, including more government shutdown stories and a state-by-state list of credit unions offering assistance. To include your credit union’s efforts in this continually updated list, please submit your responses to the government shutdown survey.
