House passes clean NDAA, free of burdensome amendments for credit unions
The House of Representatives has passed the FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) yesterday by a 281 to 140 vote. The bill – free of amendments harmful for credit unions – now awaits passage in the Senate which is expected in the coming days.
The NDAA authorizes the annual budget and expenditures of the Department of Defense and is passed annually. America’s Credit Unions, Leagues, and credit unions worked to ensure additional provisions unrelated to the military and harmful to credit unions were not added to the NDAA as amendments throughout the process.
America’s Credit Unions wrote to Congressional Leaders on Dec. 9 and joined with leagues prior to their pre-election recess, urging them to reject any amendments that stand to place new burdens on the nation’s credit unions.
The Senate is expected to take up and clear the bill to the President for his signature in the coming days but could have to dispense of amendments to the measure that may be offered on the Senate floor. America’s Credit Unions is remaining engaged to ensure no harmful provisions are added.
