Nussle encourages credit unions to turn out and make their voice heard on Election Day
In an Election Day op-ed, America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle called on credit unions to vote and make their voices heard. He highlighted what is at stake legislatively and the goal of electing credit union champions who will suppport and defend the movement.
Most importantly, Nussle emphasized credit unions’ “people helping people” mission and asked for members and communities to come together.
“The founding of our country shares parallels to the founding of credit unions: a group of people, in pursuit of a better life, banding together to do just that,” Nussle wrote. “While political rhetoric can pit people against one another, we must stay focused on what truly matters. Our cooperative mindset brings us together, whatever the election results, to advance our industry and country.”
Nussle also looked ahead to the next Congress, and the likelihood that the credit union tax status will be a focus for members, noting that “increasing federal debt and expiring tax cuts mean many kinds of funding sources could be on the table when lawmakers start diving into legislative priorities.”
