Scott Simpson officially begins as the President and CEO of America’s Credit Unions today, bringing more than 20 years of proven leadership in credit union advocacy and organizational strategy, as well as public policy and political experience. Simpson steps into the role with a lengthy track record of advancing a unified credit union movement across multiple states and on the national stage—at a time when many Americans need a trusted financial partner.

“The credit union movement is at a pivotal moment in history,” said Simpson. “Credit unions have always stood apart by putting people before profit, and that mission is on full display during this government shutdown. As we work together with our credit union members, leagues, and system partners, we will strengthen our collective voice in Washington and ensure that credit unions remain a trusted source of financial opportunity in every community. Now is exactly the right moment to show how indispensable credit unions are to our nation.”

In his role as President and CEO of America’s Credit Unions, Simpson will oversee the organization’s strategic priorities: amplifying the credit union voice in Washington, safeguarding the industry’s not-for-profit tax status, deepening member engagement, and delivering world-class products, services, and events.

His visionary leadership and extensive experience managing high-stakes policy and reputational challenges, paired with his lifelong commitment to member service, positions him to unify and energize the credit union movement at this pivotal time.

“I can’t help but think about the next steps and to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the colleagues that I’ve been working with for the last 22 years and continue to move forward,” Simpson said during a recent CUBroadcast interview.  “All of our organizations have got to transform to match where we need to be tomorrow, and that’s what we always want to recognize. It’s an opportunity for us to take a look at who we are and who we need to be. To hold onto the parts of our history that define who we are, but also make sure we are ready to shed some of that legacy that may keep us from being who we need to be tomorrow.”

Simpson previously served as President and CEO of California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions, as well as CEO of Utah’s Credit Unions. In these roles, he pioneered a cross-state partnership model that fostered collaboration while preserving strong, localized leadership. Under his guidance, credit unions in California, Nevada, and Utah successfully navigated complex political landscapes, strengthened their advocacy strategies, and broadened their reach to better serve diverse communities.

Prior to joining the credit union movement, Simpson served as senior advisor to Sen. Orrin Hatch in Washington, D.C., and led the Utah Republican Party.
