This week: Funding deadline approaches with Congress back in D.C.

Congress is back in Washington, D.C., this week with only two legislative days to come to an agreement on federal government funding before it expires at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Tuesday. The House passed a continuing resolution funding the government through Nov. 21, but that bill and another one failed in the Senate prior to recess.

Credit unions have a strong history of assisting members impacted by a federal government shutdown and are in preparations to do the same if an agreement is not reached.

America’s Credit Unions stands ready to assist credit unions, has resources available, and will continue to engage Congress to get funding passed.

Several hearings and meetings of note are scheduled this week:

  • Today, the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodities Futures Trading Commission will host a joint roundtable on regulatory harmonization efforts;
  • Tuesday, the Senate Banking Committee will consider several nominees, including Jonathan Burke to serve as the Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing; and
  • Wednesday, the Senate Finance Committee will conduct a hearing, “Examining the Taxation of Digital Assets.”

Registration for the Governmental Affairs Conference 2026, set for March 1-5 in Washington, D.C., is open. It will include recently announced keynoter Adam Grant, an internationally renowned author, professor, and change-maker. Additional announcements on speakers will occur in the coming weeks.
